The Law Doesn't Know The Rules of the Road

How are we supposed to drive properly when the police don’t follow the rules of the road themselves? How can we encourage slow drivers to stay out of the left lane when the authorities don’t set a good example? I witnessed a police vehicle, who was driving slower than the speed limit and for no reason, went into the left lane.

Driving in the passing lane

A couple days earlier I was headed east on McKnight and this vehicle in the far-left lane drove 15 km below the speed limit, side by side with a 5-ton truck, which I later discovered to be a police ghost car. Because the traffic was driving to slow, everyone missed the light. Just because he had to turn left 30 blocks

down the road didn’t give him the right to hinder traffic, even if he is a police officer. I have also witnessed many other minor traffic violations made by the men in blue.Besides driving in the wrong lane, I have seen many police vehicles not signal properly, or for that matter even perform improper lane changes.

Also, I have witnessed other emergency vehicles, that were not engaged in a emergency situation, also not properly following the rules of the road

The fire trucks and ambulances are usually not bad, except for driving in the fast-lane, but it is the supervisor vehicles that are the worst.

Even worse than the authority drivers are the municipal and provincial vehicles. I am not even sure if some of these drivers have a driver license, especially the ones driven by the Roads Department. Left lane hogging, improper signaling and lane changing, terrible merging, running red lights (yes, I have seen that a few times), driving in two lanes (and sometimes 3), Driving immediately into to the far lane when turning, etc.

Bad drivers need good examples so they learn to drive properly, and if those drivers that are there to uphold the law don’t follow the rules then how can they enforce them. If rules aren’t enforced, then mayhem follows, because people tend to keep and evolve their bad habits, and even develop new ones. If we all make an effort to think about the way we drive and realize that when we perform a bad driving habit, we should think about doing it correctly next time. If every driver made an effort eliminating their bad habits, there would be less mayhem and road congestion.
