Main Street Initiative -Revisited

Calgary’s Municipal Development Plan began a movement in the fall of 2014 to reshape the city with community oriented vibrant main street corridors. The Main Streets Initiative recognizes 24 transportation corridors needing revitalization to accommodate the future growth of the city (read WebStamp Article – June 07, 2016). After organizing 2 years of input from Calgarians, work has begun on 7 priority areas in helping connecting and creating vibrant communities.

Input is always welcome on these current priority projects, and the city seems to listen to the concerns, sometimes engaging accommodating action. With the plans in place, alterations can only cause delays and extra expense. However, already coordinating over 20 civic improvement projects the city continues with the Main Street Initiative. The city has begun consulting Calgarians on their input on the best way of improving other community enhancement projects.http://engage.calgary.ca/ is a City of Calgary website where Calgarians can voice their opinions on projects to improving their neighbourhood by developing an even better place to live, work and play.

You can give your improvement ideas on the website, but strolling down 9th Ave. SE and searching out the Snapcodes on the sidewalk stickers is much more enjoyable. I like the fact that while actually experiencing the unique atmosphere of the 9th Ave, you can have a say on its development.

Your M.A.D. Move can be anything from giving someone a helping hand, volunteering for a good cause, or donating, even a little, to a charity or organization. WebStamp’s Make A Difference (M.A.D.) Movement is more than supporting specific causes, it's about motivating those Calgarians that always wanted to do something to make a difference, but were not sure on how or what to do to get there.

In order to develop more sustainable, worry-less, tiny house communities we must first set guidelines to determine the use and functionality of the project. First, we must ask why such a development would be merited. Most people looking to downsize to a tiny house are looking to simplify their lives and live, hopefully, mortgage free.
