Spectacular Sesquicentennial Canada Day

This is an extraordinary time to be a Proud Canadian being able to take part in a major milestone where Canada commemorates 150 years of Confederation and it is going to one of the biggest and best celebrations this country has ever seen. Calgary has a big role in these celebrations with so many activities and events for everyone, including families, to enjoy.

Begin the day with a long-time Calgary tradition with a free pancake breakfast at Fort Calgary from 9-11 am, or Confederation Park from 9am to 1pm. Mayor Nenshi will be part of the 1875 Fort Exhibit Grand Opening, followed by the ENMAX Living Flag. Fort Calgary will also be hosting a Folk Fest Stage with dance and music throughout the day along with kids’ crafts, games, and a petting zoo. On Canada Day, Confederation Park will have live entertainment on the Stampede Stage and free horse-drawn wagon-rides. At 11 am step back into time with the opening of the 1967 Time Capsule.

Along with an amazing array of music, dance and storytelling one can pledge their loyalty to Canada at the CIBC Citizenship Reaffirmation Ceremony at Olympic Plaza this Canada Day. After rolling around Calgary, the famous Red Ball that has been travelling around Canada will make its appearance at the Plaza for July 1st. Studio Bell is celebrating a 1 year anniversary and will be offering free admission to all. All day entertainment at Studio Bell includes buskers, crafts, a Bell VR Experience, instrument demonstrations and a O Canada Singalong at noon and 3 pm.

Wherever you are in the City of Calgary on Canada Day there will be fabulous events and entertainment happening in your community. Downtown one can celebrate at the Calgary Public Library, Riverfront Avenue, Chinatown, Prince's Island Park, The East Village, Stephen Ave. Walk, etc. Heritage Park Canada & Dominion Day Celebrations begin with a free Pancake Breakfast for the first 2017 guests untill 10:30 am and continues all day with musical and cultural performances, ranch activities, and family-friendly games.

Be sure to get a good view of the sky above Center St. Bridge at 11 pm to enjoy the best fireworks display that Calgary has ever seen.
