Calgary's Energy Makes A Difference

There is an energy in Calgary, other than the oil & gas industry that recently disrupted our local economy, where Calgarians are doing things that are making a difference for Calgarians, our communities, our nation, and even the world. At the start of the Sesquicentennial over 3,000 Calgarians gathered at the Famous Five monument in solidarity of the Women’s March on Washington. This march on January 21st, 2017 was part of many world-wide marches, along with 9 other Canadian marches, speaking out against the ignorance and hatred that surrounds us.

Recently over 100 Calgarians held a rally against racism and the violence that stems from it. A candlelight vigil was held in response to the deadly rally in Charlottesville, Va. that killed American Heather Heyer and injured 19 others when a car plowed into a crowd of counter-protesters against the white nationalist’s march.

Besides standing up for human rights, Calgarians have helped out and volunteered for many good causes helping and housing for our disadvantaged citizens, creating new jobs, lend a helping hand to the neighbour, raising funds for research and those less fortunate, etc. Since the recession many Calgarian entrepreneurs, like myself, have begun many successful businesses by connecting with their neighbours and working together with other local businesses promoting local commerce.

Other Calgarians expel their energy towards something they believe in. Keeping the memory of my beloved grandson Paxton alive, whom passed away at the age of 3 from the rare disease GM1 Gangliosidosis, my daughter held a charity garage sale. The community was very supportive and also supplied many items where over $800 was raised that was donated to the National Tay-Sachs & Allied Diseases Association (NTSAD) for research and family services. Kassie hopes this will find a cure for GM1 Gangliosidosis so other families will not have to go through the same loss.

The energy to make a difference is all over Calgary. These many Calgarians don’t just stop at making a difference once, but continuously do so. Jeff Warner, a professional wrestler, famous quote “We are not put on earth for ourselves, but are placed here for each other. If you are there always for others, then in time of need, someone will be there for you.” can describe their attitude towards life. Be sure to become Part of the Energy and your community.

Even though the city is saying they are helping develop tiny house living with secondary suites and laneway homes, they are actually destroying entire well developed tiny house communities at the same time. The 49-year-old Midfield Mobile Home Park is one of those victims.
