The global evolution of the internet has dramatically changed the way we do business. In the 21st century people perform much of their activities, including business, online. Social media has also given the customer a voice allowing consumers to rate your products, services and business, shaping its future. Today one has to be connected to Social Media to connect with today’s consumers.

Applying only the brick-and-mortar concept of the last century falls short today for any business to fully succeed. You need to connect with the consumer with the currently used popular forms of media. Since the 1900’s the newspaper was the preferred media until the 1950’s where television became the norm. At the turn of the century many were using the internet browsing webpages, emailing, and socializing on Facebook, Twitter, Google, etc. Today, the world connects with their smart phones.

As technology continues to grow exponentially, especially with mobile devices, innovation is required to get the attention of consumers. Websites have become more creative and interactive for the basic user with advertising focused on your search habits, pop-up screens to get your attention, and an explosion of online shopping mingled in-between interesting content, replacing window shopping.

With large corporations failing, many are turning to entrepreneurship. Small business is the backbone of the economy. Today many small businesses don’t have the time, manpower, or skills to manage all aspects of their business. We see that many small businesses rely on the services or products of other small businesses to perform those necessary tasks. Instead of doing it all, concentrate on your business and outsource the parts that you have problems with. You will end up being less stressed and your business will function smoother and more efficiently.

To succeed in business in the 21st Century local businesses need to be innovative and work together. A business also has to do their communicating using current forms of media to connect to their customers and their outsourced partners. Grab Social Media by the horns and ride the technology wave to succeed in business in the 21st Century.
