Ah, summer’s here. This is the time many think of getting away and venture off to some distant place in search of rest and relaxation. However, if you don’t have the time or funds for a full-on vacation, the solution is a Staycation! Enjoy the many activities, events, places, and entertainment as a tourist in Calgary. Not only will you have a less stressful time enjoying your experience, but you will also be Making A Difference by supporting our local economy.

There are many advantages to vacationing in Calgary. You will be boosting the YYC economy supporting companies, who in turn pay their employees. These employees end up spending their wages at local businesses, including the one you work for which pays your wages. Think of all the money you will save and the time saved travelling far, far, away. There is also less stress worrying about not needing to pack as much and getting there safely.    

A successful staycation does need some planning. First, pick a day or weekend, or an enjoyable event. If you decided on a certain time period, search for events, activities, or entertainment you, or family members will love that are happening during the chosen vacation period. There are many websites where you can discover the many great attractions, events, and places to discover and explore in Calgary. Once you have decided the when and where you can decide on the luxuries to be included to make it feel like a real vacation. A vacation usually involves getting a hotel room. Be sure to select a hotel close to your selected activities so you can enjoy a comfortable short walk or ride.

If you decided to go camping for the long weekend camp in your backyard, or in a friend’s backyard across town.

Book a special spa treatment, massage, mineral bath, or sauna for that pampered touch you would expect on your sabbatical. See a play or movie, stroll down Stephan Avenue, or the river walk, explore Calgary’s public art, or relax on a patio. Do the things you would normally do while vacationing and appreciate a break from the norm.

Remember to enjoy yourself. Don’t pop-in to the office to do some work or a favour for a friend, you are on vacation. A Staycation is an easier way to enjoy your time-off without a lot of the worries.  Be sure to discover all the culinary delights, hidden gems and adventures Calgary has to offer. I am sure you haven’t seen it all. Discover and explore what you haven’t seen, just as you would be vacationing anywhere else.

A subtly engineered interaction of material and light conveying the concept of connections through rail travel in sync with the arrival, docking, and departure of trains synced with changing of coloured lights.
