Stampede Spirit 2020

The Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth, the Calgary Stampede, is very different this year due to the COVID-19 Pandemic. First of all, there was no parade to kick off the Stampede. inspiring the Stampede Spirit began with this year’s honorary parade marshal, Filipe Masetti Leite, coming in from his 8 year journey on horseback across the Americas. Even though the midway and many Stampede events have been cancelled the Spirit is being kept alive.

Hotel Arts has provided Sheriff Lincoln’s Guide To Stampede 2020. As with every year, the fireworks kicked-off Stampede 2020 with a bang on July 3rd and will again end Stampede with closing fireworks on July 12th. You can enjoy a traditional pancake breakfast with the Community Pancake Drive-thru. At the Stampede grounds there is a mini donut drive-thru where you will get 24 mini donuts along with two gate admissions to Sneak-a-Peek for the 2021 Calgary Stampede.

Those classic Stampede treats from corn dogs to cotton candy are also available from the Stampede Food Truck Rally for a taste of the midway. Many communities are creating there own Stampede entertainment. In Lake Bonavista they have the Community Stomp  with a series of weekly live entertainment to lift community spirit during COVID-19 and Stampede. There is even a virtual video party complete with a line dancing tutorial, pancake making, and a virtual flapjack flipping challenge.

There is even some Stampede window artwork to motivate the Stampede Spirit. There are many that are getting into the Stampede Spirit to some degree, but there also many that are not participating. Even though the midway absent, along with many other Stampede events, we need to keep the spirit alive for Stampede will Ride Again. For inspiration watch RETURN OF THE GREATEST (Stampede State of Mind) where The SHOW hopes  this will be your go-to song to keep your spirits high, and your head up keeping the Stampede Spirit alive till Stampede 2021.
