Hygge -Coziness & Wellbeing

Even though the sun is beginning to rise earlier and set later, this is the time of the year that many become a little bit miserable with cabin fever and avoiding the cold. Combined with the pressures of the slumping economy and today’s hectic lifestyles we all could learn something from the happiest people in the world, the Danish, who follow a hygge (pronounced (hue-guh) lifestyle to help them cope with the boredom of their long dark winters.

The most common explanation of hygge is that of Coziness & Wellbeing. Hygge, actually, isn’t a specific object, activity, or event, but being in a momentary state of joy and relaxation by focusing on the small things that really matter and enjoying the good things in life by yourself, with family and/or friends.

You don’t need to do all the many things, like decorating with nature, use lots of pillows, blankets and textured materials, candles, etc., that people are informing you how to do hygge. It really is a state of mind, one of those wow moments, where you feel comfortable and cozy and relaxed; enjoying an euphoric state of wellbeing.

Create a comfy corner to curl up in by a nice warm fire, burn some incense while performing a ritual of making a cup of tea. Take some time each day and have a moment for yourself, spend time doing enjoyable activities with family and friends and connect with your community on a regular basis are a few of the many things you can hygge.

By improving our state of mind and wellbeing, we will all be able to get through the stresses of life a lot easier. Keep Calm and enjoy life and don’t forget to hygge.
