The M.A.D Movement

Calgarians have been hearing about Joining the Movement and were wondering what it is all about. In our last issue, we gave you some ideas on making an M.A.D. Move, part of the Make A Difference (M.A.D.) Movement from our March 20, 2017 issue. This is not a new movement, it has been ongoing for many generations by people who believed in something and set out to Made A Difference.

There is even a Make A Difference organization, a worldwide group believing that any action, regardless of size, will Make A Difference for others. Even the simplest gestures can have huge impacts and will inspire the continued growth of the Movement.

I know there are many Calgarians who would like to make a difference but lack the initiative to actually do something about it right now, and keep putting it off. The time to make a M.A.D. Move is now, during Canada’s Sesquicentennial, to continue to show the world how Canada has assisted in making a positive difference for the last 150 years and will do so for generations to come.

There are many simple things that one can easily do to initiate a M.A.D. Move. By enjoying and participating in the many local activities and events you are supporting local charities, communities, and merchants meanwhile stimulating the local economy. It’s that simple helping the economy to prosper, and improving our lifestyles.

For those more ambitious, you can support a cause. Find a local organization or community association that reflect your interests. You can make donations, but the most satisfying is actually becoming involved and making things happen. In the end, you will feel great about Making A Difference while socializing with your community and encouraging others to do the same.

At times making a M.A.D. Move can even be beneficial. A couple of years ago my Grandson passed away from GM-1 Gangliosidosis disease. My daughter and wife recently went to the National Tay-Sachs & Allied Diseases (NTSAD) conference in Texas. My daughter was selling Helping Hand tickets where for her efforts she got free registration to the conference. So, I made a M.A.D. move and purchased several tickets. To my surprise, I won the Grand Prize of a $1000 US. Then I made another M.A.D. Move and donated $300 back to NTSAD.
