Choosing To Host An Olympic Movement

With less than a week to go where Calgarians can make the choice To Host or Not To Host the 2026 Winter Olympics, the early voting stations indicate Calgarians are showing interest in having their opinion heard. At the start, polls indicated that over 80% of Calgarians had interest in hosting another Olympics. With a lack of information available as to what benefits the Olympics would provide and the amount Calgarians would have to contribute interest has dropped to just over 65%. This has led to Calgarians voicing their opinion with a Plebiscite.

The final numbers have finally come to light with the games to cost $5.1 Billion. The public contribution is a follows; the Government of Canada is contributing $1.45 billion, the Province of Alberta committed $700 million, the City of Calgary would have to subsidize $390 million and include $150 million credit for previous financial commitment to improve a downtown district into the Games hub, and finally the Town of Canmore to supply $3 million. The remainder of the investment would come from private funding of $2.23 billion generated from games revenues that includes a $1.2-billion contribution from the International Olympic Committee.

November came in like a lion with a record snowfall surpassing the monthly average in its first four days. As usual, this created traffic mayhem for commuters. Many drivers are not properly trained to handle winter conditions so they drive over cautiously driving way to slow. Mandatory winter driving training should be mandatory for drivers living in northern climates.
