Winter Driving Training Required For Northern Climates

November came in like a lion with a record snowfall surpassing the monthly average in its first four days. As usual, this created traffic mayhem for commuters. Many drivers are not properly trained to handle winter conditions so they drive over cautiously driving way to slow. Mandatory winter driving training should be mandatory for drivers living in northern climates.

Over-cautious drivers usually drive extremely slow hindering the flow of traffic. Drivers not familiar with handling an emergency situation usually over correct and often end up in an accident. If all drivers had winter driver training, they would all be better and more confident drivers. This would lead to improved traffic flow and fewer traffic incidents.

Due to the major accidents, such as the Humbolt tragedy, the government recently has made it mandatory for truck drivers to have more training before they are certified to drive. They didn’t go far enough though, all drivers should have training to drive, or at least training to drive in winter conditions. In the Modernized Traffic Acts Needed article we see that other countries have made it mandatory to have training before one can be tested to acquire their driver license.

With over 350 accidents that occurred during the last snowfall it is obvious that many drivers have difficulties driving in winter conditions. Mandatory training would not only benefit drivers in winter driving, but would may improve their driving skills. This would automatically make our roads safer and more efficient.

Become part of the M.A.D. Movement and Make A Difference with the way we commute. If you have difficulties with driving in winter conditions then take some lessons to improve your driving ability. Properly trained drivers ensure safer and faster commutes.
