Brighten-Up the Season

As the sun sets earlier with the Christmas season approaching, many are brightening up the dark evenings with colourful light displays. Aside from driving around the city viewing the many wonderful individual lighted seasonal displays, there are many enlightening public Christmas light displays for everyone to enjoy. Many are free, some ask for donations for charity, while others charge a small fee to continue bringing the festive displays year after year.

ZOO LIGHTS has begun brightening up the evening with 2+ million lights and 200 displays, crackling fire pits, and fun-filled activity zones since November 22. This transforming of the Calgary Zoo into a magical winter wonderland can be viewed until January 4, 2020, excluding December 25th. Pricing for this event is $19.95 for adults and $14.95 for kids.

November 28 saw the lighting of The Core’s famous 45-foot tree with live entertainment, fireworks, and watch sponsors decorate Christmas trees. The 150 decorated trees will be on display for your viewing until December 18, 2019, after which they will be donated to needy families that don’t have a tree this Christmas.NoelLightPark_MariahWilson-6437.jpg

Calgary’s Only Indoor Light Park & Christmas Mini-Market has opened for the holiday season. Indulge in a spectacular Christmas event enjoying an impressive Interactive Light Park and Christmas Kid's Adventure. There's something special for everyone, from artisan gifts, craft beer, food trucks, and Santa’s Village in the Noël Christmas Mini-Market. This must-attend holiday event for every Calgarian will be held at the Calgary Stampede Grounds until December 31st.

The 33rd annual Lion’s Festival of Lights will go ahead after all after fears of cancellation. To view Calgary’s largest FREE drive-by Christmas Lights showcase drive along 14 St. NW north of 24 Ave. Volunteers put in thousands of hours assembling the 99% GREEN light show with over 500,000 LED light bulbs. Every year it is viewed by over 57,000 visitors per day.

Christmas at Spruce Meadows is another fabulous winter wonderland 2 km drive that you don’t want to miss officially opens December 8, 2019. Enter through the main entrance and enjoy the drive through the Spruce Meadows grounds.

Be sure to catch the brightly lit CP Holiday Train as it makes a stop at the Anderson C-Train Station at 5:45 Sunday, also on December 8. There will be a lineup of great musical talent performing in the boxcar stage. They are wanting to Make A Difference and would like you to bring contributions to the local food bank.

Brighten-up your evening by enjoying the many holiday season displays showcasing the Christmas Spirit. Go for a nice leisurely drive or stroll through the enlightened atmosphere of the season. Go for a skate with friends at Olympic Plaza around the brightly lit tree and enjoy the Downtown Christmas displays. Enjoy the season.
