Appreciating Christmas 2020
While the COVID pandemic has given us a humbug 2020 Christmas we should still all participate in the season’s spirit to relieve the tension and stress that it has brought. With many of the usual activities being cancelled, there are a few that still can be enjoyed practicing pandemic protocols like the Lions Festival of Lights and Spruce Meadows Christmas Lights where you can remain isolated with your own family group inside your car as you drive by.
Many Calgarians are brightening up the season with many fantastic light displays. Bring back the tradition of driving around the neighbourhood listening to Christmas music absorbing the twinkling atmosphere. One can really get into the spirit of giving by discovering fantastic elaborate seasonal light displays in Calgary while giving donations for the food bank at Lighten UP Calgary.
Santa will be visiting from a distance this year at malls around the city. At Southcentre Mall guests travel through Santa’s Christmas tree farm and greet Santa in his shiny red pickup truck. There are many Christmas Events, Parades, and Holiday theatres that are still ongoing for the holiday season, even though some may still be cancelled. Families can get into the spirit with Christmas Carols & Concerts around Calgary brought virtually to you in your own home.
While in the giving spirit don’t forget to Shop Locally and help boost the local spirit for those struggling businesses during the holidays. Many businesses complying with the pandemic restrictions are still open to accepting orders with delivery or curbside pickup. Even though we can’t eat at our favourite restaurant you can still enjoy your favourite meals from many local restaurants for take-out for the holidays.
With Christmas gatherings forbidden, we are all encouraged to celebrate the holidays with only the family you live with. Make some new Christmas traditions involving only the family. Bring the family closer together with a Christmas movie marathon or game night. Family Christmas baking and creating decorative crafts are also stimulating activities to get one into and enjoy the festive spirit.
Let us not forget that Christmas traditions are for all. Even though we can’t go to the usual parties and gatherings spreading peace and prosperity we still can connect virtually. We can even throw virtual parties, play holiday bingo, trivia, or karaoke. Connecting virtually is the best way to enjoy comrading with loved ones at a distance.
No matter how you enjoy the Christmas Season, embrace and enjoy it for it is a time to spread goodwill and peace. Have a Merry Christmas, a Happy New Year, and the hope of a better world to come.
