Join The Movement

Republished WebStamp Article April 02, 2017

The world as we know it is changing at an accelerating rate. Advances in technology and the constant demands of hectic lifestyles can make it challenging to get a grip on life at times.  Working as a group towards a common goal to improve our communities can have a tremendous impact on our well-being.

Participating in your local community and organizations gives a sense of belonging along with mutual support, strength and influence. If you are not involved with your local community, you will miss out on the opportunity to inform your neighbours about activities and events that appeal to you.  As a group working together, great things are accomplished and can shape the future of our existence.

WebStamp’s directive is to stimulate the local economy by connecting Calgarians and businesses with their local communities. Calgarians continue to prove a strong community spirit since the formation of Calgary’s first civic association in 1908. The Bridgeland community association was created to establish recreational and social activities to benefit the citizens in the community.

The vision of William Pearce of creating a city that would be visually attractive to citizens and visitors alike set the foundation for creating parks and an open space system covering over 7,742 hectares, which is supplemented by an extensive pathway system. Numerous institutions such as churches, professional associations, friendly societies, social clubs and charitable organizations have developed to help Calgarians in times of need and improve their standard of living. These changes happened because people joined a movement to make a difference for themselves and generations to come.

We all can help improve the economy and our lifestyles by joining the movement to make our city, country, and the world a better place for all. I have gotten feedback that many community associations (and condo boards) lack direction and creativity, discouraging participation. This is most likely due to a lack of leadership and innovation. These groups all could use an incentive from a fresh perspective.

Be the one who stimulates development, direction and purpose. Join a community or social organization and stimulate that movement to improve our city to the benefit of all.

What better way to give back than to enjoy some R&R and know that you have contributed to improving the welfare of your neighbours and communities? A Staycation is a great way where you can “Join the Movement” and make a difference for everyone.

Pay-It-Forward, help a neighbour, or become part of another movement, like Mayor Nenshi’s Challenge: 3 Things for Calgary – 3 Acts of Kindness. Just be sure to MAKE your M.A.D. Move and be sure to do something you are passionate about so you can enjoy yourself and feel great that you have Made a Difference.
