Ascension

On the corner of 9th St. and 4th Ave., at the northwest corner of the Downtown Core, we have Poetic Park. This Alberta terrain themed park has two arachnid sculptures ascending through the varied topography.

Ascension is meant to encourage Calgarians to discover the value of life at every level through the notions of ascension, direction, steadfastness, and teamwork. The 3-legged spider-like creatures are the work of local Calgary artists Edwarn Beltran and Danira Miralda of the artist collective INCIPIO MODO.

Each of these locally fabricated modular sculptures consist of three sections assembled on-site like a tripod. The sections were assembled and adjusted on site to articulate each leg to conform to the varied terrain.

Experience the inversion of scale between the spider sculptures and the small urban Poetic Park. Reflect with the principles of the neighbouring Buddhist Monastery to following the right path in life.
